I have no idea what my brother does for a living. I know he's an engineer and has a degree in computer science. I know he does something with coding. But if you ask me to tell you anything more specific than that, all I've got for you is a blank stare and a shrug. It all feels very vague.
And it occurred to me that you might have similar thoughts about what I do as a life coach.
You probably know that I'm a certified life coach and Human Design expert and that I work with women to help them be a priority in their own lives. But you might not really know what that actually means. Or what it really looks like when you have a life coach.
If it all feels very vague, let me break it down for you and explain.
As a coach my job is to help you be aware of and understand what you're doing in the here and now, take credit for what's going well and change what isn't.
We meet every week for 45 minutes on Zoom. Each session will be a conversation designed to help you gain awareness and understanding of what you're doing and thinking that's creating your external reality. I'll ask questions that will help you explore what's going on beneath the surface and open up new perspectives. Then we'll end the session with a strategy, takeaway or focus to implement in the coming week.
For example, let's say your goal is to only work during work hours, not on nights and weekends. You come to a session and tell me that you got a work email on Saturday, decided to respond quickly and ended up working for three hours.
I'd start by asking why you responded instead of leaving it until Monday. Then we'd explore your answer. Maybe you were worried what your client/boss/coworker would think if you didn't respond right away. So I'd ask you what the likelihood of them having that thought would be and what would happen if they did. This gives you clarity instead of just spinning in anxiety.
Depending on your answers, I might ask you what else could be true so you could see other perspectives. That helps you come up with other options of how you could have reacted when the email came in.
I'd also help you understand how your Human Design influences the situation. Perhaps you have an open Will Center so you're tying your self-worth to the validation and praise you get from work. Or maybe you have an open Root Center so you feel more comfortable when you're busy and being "productive".
This understanding helps you identify how it feels in your body when those open centers are activated. So you can manage your nervous system response (I teach you how to do that too) instead of reacting to it.
Throughout each session we'll check in with your Human Design Authority so we ensure all of the choices and decisions you're making are aligned with your intuitive process.
Then we'd close the session with an action plan for what you'll do when it inevitably happens again.
Each of these individual situations build on each other. After six months of being coached by me you'll have an in-depth understanding of yourself, the confidence to be your own top priority, less guilt and worry about what other people are thinking and doing, a clear decision-making process and style, and the ability to manage your emotions and reactions.
Does this sound like something you want to experience? Schedule a consult so we can talk about working together would look like for you specifically.
During the consult we'll talk about what you're looking for and what's missing. I'll lay out a process to help you get there. And then we'll decide if we want to move forward. Either way, you'll get info about your chart and some strategies you can implement right away.
